CD Projekt Red has revealed that a new Witcher game is in the process.

CD Projekt Red has declared that it’s acting on a spick-and-span Witcher game, which can “kick off a brand new heroic tale for the franchise” and be the primary new thought title in the series since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was discharged all the way back in 2015.

The biggest news, however, is that the coming Witcher game will see CD Projekt Red reverse from its existing in-house REDengine engine which the company has used for over a decade to Unreal Engine five, as a part of a “multi-year strategic partnership” between CDPR and Epic Games.

Despite that partnership, the ensuing Witcher game won’t be exclusive to the Epic Games stores, and CDPR can still use the REDengine for a few current projects, just like the coming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, too.

There is clearly no release date at this point.

Beyond that, however, CDPR is creating a degree of notice that “no more details" (such as a development time-frame or release date) are being provided at this point concerning the new title. Given the length of development times for CD Projekt Red games, however, it can be a while before we get additional data.

Take the infamously long development time for Cyberpunk 2077, which was initially announced in 2012, got a teaser trailer in 2013, and was delayed various times till it finally debuted in December 2020.

And even then, "the unleash" (the discharge) was rife with problems and bugs that CD Projekt Red continued to iron out over a full year after its release.

Still, news of a brand new Witcher title is exciting, although details are significantly slim.

The Witcher 3 continues to be considered one of the best open-world RPGs ever created, and with the franchise riding to new heights of recognition because of the continuing Netflix series (and its spinoffs), it’s straightforward to ascertain why CDPR would want to initiate “a new saga” of Witcher adventures.
